Upgrading Tiger Athletics: New Ball Field Fencing Installed at Fridley High School

Twin Cities Fence recently upgraded a local Minnesota Athletic Field by tearing down the old, worn out fencing and Installing new Ball Field Fencing for Fridley High School. When a school district invests in its athletic facilities, it is investing directly in the safety and pride of its student-athletes. And that is exactly what Fridley Public Schools (ISD 14) did, which delivered a massive upgrade to the Fridley High School varsity ball field. Our fencing contractors safely tore down an aging perimeter and replaced it with a state-of-the-art commercial backstop.

Located on the high school campus in the heart of the North Metro, this high-traffic field required a commercial fencing system engineered for two things: spectator safety and absolute, low-maintenance longevity.

Heavy Duty Commercial Fence Replacement for Fridley’s Ball-field

High school athletic fields take a beating. Between the high-velocity impact of varsity line drives, the weight of winter snowdrifts, and the daily wear-and-tear of campus grounds maintenance, standard residential chain link quickly bows, rusts, and fails quickly. Fridley High School needed a heavy-duty commercial replacement that would keep game balls inside the park while keeping the surrounding campus pedestrian zones safe.

10’ Galvanized Sport Court Fencing

Our team cleared the old perimeter and installed a towering 10-foot commercial galvanized sport court fence, finished in a sleek, non-distracting black coating.

To maximize the field’s functionality, this build featured two vital structural upgrades:

  • Angled Upper Ball-Stop Netting: Look closely at the project photos, and you will notice the custom 45-degree canopy extensions rigged to the top rail. This specialized netting catches high pop-ups that would normally clear a standard 10-foot fence, protecting nearby spectators, the team dugouts, and cars in the school parking lot.
  • A 12” Concrete Mow Strip: This is the unsung hero of commercial campus design. We poured a continuous 12-inch concrete perimeter directly beneath the bottom rail of the fence. For the Fridley Public Schools grounds crew, this means they can run industrial lawnmowers right up to the edge without their weed-whackers ever chewing up the bottom of the chain link. It also permanently blocks creeping turf and burrowing pests.

By pairing an industrial-grade galvanized steel framework with a solid concrete footing system, this backstop is protected against the severe frost-heave of Anoka County winters. It is rigid enough to swallow the impact of a fast-pitch baseball and snap right back into place.
